My aim in writing "Discovering Martial Arts" is to illustrate that there is much more to Martial Arts than what meets the eye. If we go back to the writings of grand masters of the various schools, we will find one common theme. They all emphasized that the true Martial Artist will give equal importance to the development of skills in each of the three domains: physical, mental and spiritual. In so doing, the three become one - one true path of living and practicing Martial Arts.

Skill on the physical path can be learned by anyone in a short time with dedication and perseverance.
Skill on a mental path requires a great deal of discipline and self-control, only achieved by a small number of people.
Skill on the spiritual path takes the form of a growing realization that all life is one.
