Description
A bokken (木剣, bok(u), “wood”, and ken, “sword”) is a Japanese wooden sword used for training. Bokken were designed to lessen the damage caused by fighting with real swords and were used for the training of samurai warriors in feudal Japan. If you know anything about swords, you know that metal ones can be unforgiving with mistakes, especially if they’re sharpened so wood bokkens are perfect for safe practice of sword techniques and kata.
This bokken is made especially for youth martial artists with its shorter length. The bokken is composed of red oak hardwood and includes one plastic tsuba and one rubber stopper. The red oak wood is sanded for a smooth finish. Bokkens are made of natural red oak, therefore there is a chance of breaking when striking hard surfaces or other bokkens.
